The deceased, identified as Shakeela, hanged herself with a plastic rope in her room around 1.30pm, the police said. Police said she left a suicide note saying that owing to a marital discord, her son was taken away by her husband and in-laws.

Shakeela was posted at Shivaji Nagar police station. The suicide note further states that she lost the will to live after her husband took away her son.

“I filed for divorce case and also filed a domestic violence case against my husband and in-laws, but there has been no progress on both fronts. Only hearings have been held without any result. My son was my life and without him, my life has no meaning,” the constable wrote in the suicide note addressed to her father and mother.

She also accused her husband, his sisters and mother of harassing her and forcing her to take the extreme step.

In the note, she also made an appeal to the city police to give a job to her elder sister, who is jobless and is having trouble making ends meet. She said she couldn’t meet her son owing to marital issues and it made her lose all hope in life.
