Gurugram gangster’s close aide helped police arrest 12 gang members

The police said the gang was busted on information shared by Sube Singh on WhatsApp from six different numbers, which are being surveilled to track his location. Sube allegedly wanted to eliminate Ranbir Saini, Kaushal’s right hand man, as his competition.

The police on Monday revealed that Sube Singh, a close aide of gangster Kaushal, had tipped them off about the location of other gang members who were living in a rented hideout in Dehradun, which led to their arrest last week.

The police said the gang was busted on information shared by Sube on WhatsApp from six different numbers, which are being surveilled to track his location. Sube allegedly wanted to eliminate Ranbir Saini, Kaushal’s right hand man, as his competition.

According to the police, Ranbir had control over the gang’s finances and Sube was miffed with his behaviour.

The police has, last week, arrested 12 members of Kaushal’s gang. According to them, 26 more are on their radar.

They said that mobile phones recovered from four of them allegedly had messages, pictures and videos sent from different numbers that belonged to Sube. The police said they matched the numbers with those from which they had received messages and calls tipping them off to the presence of Ranbir in Dehradun.

Ranbir had been living in Dehradun for the past five months along with his wife and three gang members. He was controlling the extortion business in Delhi-NCR, including in Gurugram, the police said.

“Sube was apparently unhappy with the Ranbir’s rise and had decided to inform the police so that the entire old guard could be busted and he could become the new in-charge of the gang as Kaushal is suspected to be in Thailand. Sube would the be able to control the gang’s finances as well,” Shamsher Singh, assistant commissioner of police (crime), said.

The police said Sube has been on the run since 2016 and is a key member of the Kaushal gang. He had planned several murders, including that of 52-year-old numberdar (a village-level official, who maintains and verifies land records in village), who was shot dead by three unknown persons at IMT Manesar Chowk on December 5, the police said.

Kaushal is also wanted in more than 100 cases of murder, attempt-to-murder, kidnapping, extortion, robbery and dacoity and has been on the run since 2016.

Singh said they have formed five special teams who are tracking the location of the six mobile numbers, which could lead to Sube’s arrest. Sube carries a reward of ₹4 lakh for his arrest and is rumoured to be somewhere in Uttarakhand.

The police, in January, had attached Sube’s properties but nobody turned up to participate their auction.

“We had assured people of their safety and security but they did not turn up. We have targeted the properties of wanted criminals to curb their financial muscle in the district,” Singh said.

The police said they expected Kaushal to surrender as many of his gang members had been arrested. “His other associates are also on our radar and will be arrested soon,” he said .

Singh said they will also apply for production remand for Manish, Kaushal’s brother who is lodged in Tihar jail. “We want to question Manish and Ranbir together and will try to get some leads related to the gang operation and Kaushal,” he said.
