The additional labour commissioner, Gurgaon, Naresh Narwal inspected 16 IT and BPO companies on Thursday night and found that seven of them didn't have the permission to deploy women staff at night.

The firms are based at DLF Cyber City.

The department will soon issue notices to them.

The companies were also caught on the wrong foot in the implementation of transport guidelines such as deploying a security guard in office cabs that ferry women passengers at night.

Following reports about women feeling unsafe in Gurgaon, especially during the night, the labour department is currently on a special drive to inspect BPOs and call centres during odd hours.

The department has been making surprise visits in the companies.

The labour department will prepare an online database on the women workforce in the Millennium City.
