A new slip road is being constructed at the busy Hero Honda Chowk on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway by the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) to end traffic woes.

The nearly 50-metre long road will be used to divert traffic from Iffco Chowk towards Subhash Chowk on Sohna Road.

Hero Honda Chowk on the expressway is a major traffic bottleneck. Despite being a strategic crossing, there are no crossover facilities for pedestrians and no turns for motorists.

At Rajiv Chowk, Huda is widening two U-turns for traffic moving towards Delhi and Jaipur. Rajiv Chowk, like Hero Honda Chowk, is another strategic crossing used by intra-city traffic.

After Rajiv Chowk, the next u-turn for traffic moving towards Jaipur is 10 kilometres away at the Kherki Dhaula toll plaza. Lakhs of residents living on either side of the expressway don’t have a single crossover facility on the entire 10-km stretch.

Besides, a number of industrial units are in the proximity of Hero Honda Chowk. Workers of these units have no choice but to risk their lives daily while crossing the expressway.

Last year, 55 people lost their lives on the 27-km long Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway while the toll was 89 in 2011.

The National Highway Authority of India has proposed to construct a Japanese-model flyover through a high-rise building to end traffic mess at the Hero Honda Chowk.

Tenders have already been floated for this.
