Unsafe house sealed in Gurugram, Khandsa drain widening to start soon

The house was sealed after it was declared unsafe by district authorities. It was apprehended that digging of the drain could further endanger the structure, MCG officials said.

The house was sealed after it was declared unsafe by district authorities. It was apprehended that digging of the drain could further endanger the structure, MCG officials said.

So long, work on the drain could start because of the presence of this structure, which is just three metres away from the alignment, said officials.

Khandsa drain is part of the larger Badshahpur drain, which flows from Ghata to Hero Honda Chowk and passes through Khandsa village. The drain is being expanded at Khandsa village, as the capacity of Badhshapur drain, which flows at a capacity of 2,200 cusecs till Hero Honda Chowk, reduces to 700 cusecs after it enters Khandsa.

Due to the narrowness of the drain, the national highway and Hero Honda Chowk witness heavy waterlogging as water flows back into the Chowk and has to be pumped to other side of the highway. After the Gurujam of 2016, a 20-hour traffic jam in the city triggered by massive waterlogging, the Haryana government had decided to widen the 700-metre Khandsa drain by paying compensation and giving alternative plots to owners.

At present, work on around 450 metres of the drain has been completed, whereas rest of the work is also underway, said officials. Due to the presence of the building, work on the 35-metre stretch in Khandsa could not be completed. HSVP officials said that the house is just three metres from the drain

The house was declared unsafe by deputy commissioner, Gurugram on March 7, after a report in this regard was given by PW (B&R) department.

An MCG spokesperson said that an enforcement team under executive engineer Vivek Gill sealed the building. Around 25 to 30 people, who were living on rent in the house, were asked to vacate the premises, after which the sealing was carried out.
