With just a day left for filing of nominations for the upcoming state assembly elections, as many as 21 candidates filed their papers on Thursday. Friday is the last day for filing of nominations for the elections, which are scheduled for October 21.

These included nine independent candidates — two from Pataudi, three each from Badshahpur and Gurgaon, and one from Sohna. Until now, the total number of nominations filed from the Gurgaon district stands at 27.

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) RS Rathee and Swaraj India’s Sheilza Bhatia also filed their nominations from the Gurgaon constituency on Friday. Before going to the subdivisional magistrate’s office to submit the papers, both the candidates addressed a gathering of their respective party workers and supporters, who accompanied them till the Mini Secretariat.

A graduate from Delhi University, Bhatia is an entrepreneur and has co-founded a startup. She is contesting elections for the first time. Rathee, meanwhile, is a municipal councillor and has contested elections in the past. The total number of nominations filed from the Gurgaon constituency till now stands at 8.

Sukhbir Tanwar of Indian National Lok Dal Party, Deep Chand of Jannayak Janata Party, Satyaprakash Jaravata of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Deepak of Swaraj India Party and Sunil of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) filed their nomination papers in Pataudi.

Meanwhile, Sanjay Singh of the BJP, Javed Ahmad of BSP and Samay Singh of the Peoples’ Party of India (Democratic) filed their nomination papers in Sohna.

Bhatia said that she was hopeful that the people of Gurugram would keep their faith in her. “I feel a great sense of responsibility towards the people of the city. I am confident of winning their support which would further pave way for the development of the city,” said Bhatia.

Rathee, on the other hand, posed an open challenge to others contestants while addressing his supporters. “I have worked for the development of Gurugram for over past two decades now. I am familiar with all the issues that the city faces. If I come to power,I will implement policies that will solve these issues,” he said.
