Brew your green tea and eat it too!

Tired of having the usual cup of green tea? We tell you how to consume it differently.

Many of us drink several cups of green tea every day, for its multiple health advantages. Loaded with antioxidants, this wonder drink aids fat loss, has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties, is believed to reduce the risk of cancer and heart ailments, and also slows signs of ageing.

But why restrict its goodness to beverages when it can be an ingredient in a host of other preparations too? Think green tea french toast, chicken, muffins and what not.

"Green tea can be used in a number of water-based dishes, be it oats, chicken, rice, etc. Replace water with brewed green tea in the preparation and you've infused your meal with antioxidants," says health expert Prachi Agarwal.

Here are a few food options that green tea could become best friends with:

Steamed chicken: Steam boneless chicken in a pot filled with brewed green tea and enjoy the tender pieces with a distinct flavour.

Oats: Steep a green tea bag in boiling water, mix instant oats and prepare them as you normally would.

Boiled eggs: Boil and peel eggs and soak them in a mixture of green tea and light soy sauce for a few days. This way, the flavour will set in better and you can have them as a protein-rich snack later.

Green tea frozen yogurt: Take a cup of plain yogurt. Mix a small amount with 1 teaspoon matcha (powdered green tea) and 1/4 cup powdered sugar to make a smooth mixture. Now, add the rest of the yogurt to it and mix. Chill in the fridge for an hour and churn in an ice cream machine or frozen yogurt maker.
