Here are tips on how to stay fit and healthy at a low cost.

Buy in bulk: Buy foods in bulk packaging, divide into portions and store some for future use. Items are usually less expensive when purchased this way.

Eat more vegetarian meals: Replace meat with beans, vegetables or low-fat dairy a few times per week, to reduce the saturated fat in your diet.

Go for home-made meals: Avoid processed foods like bread. Instead go for home-made chapatis, and stuff them with simply cooked vegetables.

Mix a little: Don’t build your meals around high-in-fat meats like beef, pork and lamb. Choose recipes that use small amounts of meat to flavour dishes, or base the dishes on veggies, beans or grains.

Plan your meals in advance: Spontaneous expenditures can expand your waistline as well as your budget. Plan your meals well in time to be able to use everything you buy.
