If you’re a moderate drinker, there is reason to celeberate (by moderate we mean women who consume up to a drink a day and men up to two per day). If you have a heart attack, you can carry on drinking (in moderation) as you will fare better than your counterparts who give up alcohol, reports a study in the American Journal of Cardiology.
Just one sleepless night can hamper the body’s ability to use insulin to process sugar in the bloodstream. The findings, published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, showed that partial sleep restriction during a single night reduced insulin sensitivity by 19 to 25 per cent in people with Type 2 or adult-onset diabetes.
Healthy recipe — roasted pepper and tomato salad
Portion for four:
Dressing: 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar, 1 garlic clove, 1/4 cup olive oil, salt and pepper. Salad: ½ kg red and yellow peppers, roasted, 1 tbsp slivered basil, ½ kg wedged tomatoes, 1 lettuce leaf head, 50 gm goat cheese, crumbled.
Mix vinegar, garlic and olive oil with salt and pepper. Cut the roasted peppers into wide strips. Toss with two tbsp of the dressing. Tear lettuce leaves into bite-size pieces. Toss with tomatoes, dressing and basil. Sprinkle goat cheese. Serve chilled.
