Daniel Craig: I’d slash my wrists than play James Bond again

While the world is going crazy about who will play the next Bond, the present incumbent Daniel Craig simply can’t care. Or, as he says, he doesn’t give a f*ck as long as they are not sh*t.

For Daniel Craig’s fans out there, here it is in a nutshell: He just ain’t doing another 007 film. He just ain’t. In fact, to quote the actor who has just finished the filming of Spectre, his fourth outing as Her Majesty’s iconic agent, “I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists.” He is over Ian Fleming’s creation and only wants to move on.

In an interview to Time Out London, when the British actor was asked about the chances of him playing Bond again, he said, “Now? I’d rather break this glass and slash my wrists. No, not at the moment. Not at all. That’s fine. I’m over it at the moment. We’re done. All I want to do is move on.”

Daniel Craig in Spectre: ‘I have stuck every Bond idea I had in this film’.

Arguably the best James Bond ever, he does drop this nugget though. “At the moment, we’ve done it. I’m not in discussion with anybody about anything. If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.” To be fair to Craig, the actor was interviewed days after he finished an around-the-world gruelling shoot for Spectre that took him eight months and kept him on a restricted diet.

So, does he care who will don the tux in Bond 23? “Look, I don’t give a f*ck. Good luck to them! All I care about is that if I stop doing these things we’ve left it in a good place and people pick it up and make it better. Make it better, that’s all.”

But he does have a word of advice, or five, for his successor. “Don’t be sh*t! Go for it. Embrace it. Some clichéd line like that. But no, just make sure you’re great. You’ve got to push yourself as far as you can. It’s worth it, it’s James Bond… People do not make movies like this any more. This is really rare now. So don’t be sh*t.”

That Bond film, this scene: Daniel Craig will get his kit off again in Spectre, a la Quantum of Solace.

Now that Craig is hell bent on saying adieu, he will be leaving us with something to think about and something to salivate over in this film directed by Sam Mendes. “Every idea I’ve had for a Bond movie, I’ve stuck into this one. It’s gone in. The Bond bank is dry. If you’re asking me what would I do with another Bond movie? I haven’t a clue. Go into space? Let’s do it! They already did it. Let’s do it again.”

And for his female fans, Craig promises he will be getting his kit off, a la emerging from sea in his trunks in Casino Royale. “I don’t look at it (Casino Royale scene)! I don’t look at it, weeping, going ‘Wasn’t I beautiful!’… I’m not very cool. I’m not the coolest human being. I wish I was, but I’m not. And I don’t pretend to be cool. But playing James Bond, you have to be cool, and what the hell is cool? You could write a dissertation on it! That was a big accident, that particular shot. I was pretending to swim in shallow water and then I stood up and walked out of the water! I was pretending to be cool by swimming, I thought it looked stupid and stood up and I walked off – and that was the shot!”
