Deadline reports that the pop star has been offered a supporting part in the film, which is about to start filming in the next few months. It will mark Styles’ cinematic debut, after he turned down a part in Justin Chadwick’s Tulip Fever.

Dunkirk is based on Operation Dynamo, a mass rescue of Allied troops in 1940s France. It will be the first time the Dark Knight and Inception director will tackle a war movie.

The film also stars Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh and recent Oscar winner Mark Rylance in supporting roles. Returning crew members are Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema who will shoot the picture of IMAX 65 mm and 65 mm film, and composer Hans Zimmer. The film has been scheduled for a July 21 release next year.
