Disney finds Aladdin, Jasmine in Mena Massoud , Naomi Scott; Will Smith to play Genie

Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott have been finalised as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine in the live-action adaptation of 1992’s Aladdin.

Disney has found its Aladdin and Princess Jasmine in newcomers Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott.

Disney production President Sean Bailey revealed on Saturday at the D23 Expo that Massoud will star as the scrappy Aladdin, and ‘Pink Power Ranger’ Scott will play Jasmine in the live-action adaptation of the 1992 superhit animated film.

Will Smith has already been cast as the Genie.

Earlier this week, the studio had shared that they were facing trouble finalising the lead pair for the film. The internet then took it upon themselves to come up with suggestions that included many Middle Eastern and Indian actors.

According to The Wrap, Massoud was born in Egypt and raised in Canada, while Scott is British and has an Indian mother.

The film will be directed by Guy Ritchie.
