Actor Maggie Q has been a favourite with the likes of Jackie Chan and Tom Cruise for action comedies and spy thrillers respectively, but the 31-year-old is now leaping forward with her action-oriented role of a warrior priestess battling vampires in Priest, that releases worldwide today.

Interestingly, auditioning for the role left Maggie intimidated. “Everyone had heels and big hair, there was all this smoky eye make-up happening. I thought I was at the wrong place because the role was for a priest, so why would you do the hair and the heels? I was mortified. I was like, ‘What is happening right now?’” she reveals.

Though not a vampire film fan, the actor says the movie is more than just blood-sucking people with fangs. “There’s a lot of symbolism in this movie and a lot of parallels that we draw, and there are creatures instead of people with teeth, which made it a lot cooler. I don’t view this as an action film or a vampire film. I see it as a drama, but then you get all that other stuff too, which is great,” says the Honolulu native.
