Iron Man 3, which hits theatres on April 26, will open in over 1,000 screens across the country. This will be the largest release for any Hollywood film in India till date. The movie being distributed by UTV Motion Pictures, will be released in about 450 digital screens and almost 350-400 single screens. The normal range for any big budget Hollywood movie is 200-250 screens.

“Iron Man is one of the biggest superhero franchises, and after the success of The Avengers in India last year, there is a huge demand for the film. We are releasing it in more than 1,000 screens in four languages in Imax, 3D and 2D versions. Even our single-screen partners are excited to show the movie,” says Gaurav Verma, director — India theatrical distribution, Studios, Disney UTV.

Exhibitors are also working on strategies to ensure that the film’s 3D experience goes beyond the bigger cities.

“Iron Man is a much-loved franchise and actor Robert Downey Jr is very popular among the superhero film lovers in India. Also, the film’s visibility and promotions are so strong that every multiplex has given it a major place,” says Girish Wankhede, general manager, marketing and communication, Cinemax.
