Marvel shortlists Babadook director Jennifer Kent for Captain Marvel

It seems like Marvel’s upcoming superhero film Captain Marvel is preparing to get female filmmakers to take the franchise forward.

Following the announcement that Brie Larson is the first choice to play the superhero, a new report says Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent are among the directors being eyed for the gig, reports the Independent.

Both are independent directors who have received critical acclaim - Caro with 2002 New Zealand family film Whale Rider and 2015’s McFarland, USA and Kent with her 2014 Australian horror debut The Babadook.
