Allahabad HC dismisses PIL seeking SC category benefits for Muslims

The Allahabad high court on Thursday dismissed a PIL petition seeking Scheduled Caste category benefits for Muslims.
The order was passed by a bench comprising acting chief justice VK Shukla and justice MC Tripathi while hearing a petition filed by the Association for Protection of Civil Rights and two others.
The petitioners contended that as per the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, passed by the President of India, only Hindus (Sikhs and Buddhists) could be included in the Scheduled Castes category which was discrimination against Muslims on the ground of religion.
They said that members of the Muslim community should be included in the Scheduled Caste category according to their status in society and benefits such as reservation, protection from social evils, etc should also be provided to them.
