‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ across MP, schools to impart lessons on Vajpayee: CM Chouhan

The life of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee would be taught in schools of Madhya Pradesh from the next academic session and his ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ will touch every village panchayat in the state, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced on Saturday, along with a slew of measures to keep Vajpayee’s memory alive.
He said three national level awards of Rs 5 lakh each would also be given in the field of journalism, poetry and good administration in his memory.
Chouhan said, “He is a stalwart. His life is an inspiration for many. We want future generation would be aware of his deed and thoughts so that they would also take inspiration from him.”
With elections barely three months away, Chouhan said condolence meetings for former PM will be organised at all the district headquarters from August 22 to 25 and in all development blocks and gram panchayats between August 25 and 30. Vajpayee’s ashes will be immersed in all prominent rivers of the state including the Narmada, he added.
As part of the Kalash Yatra, Atal Smriti Sabha (Atal Memorial meetings) will be held in villages where people will be told about Vajpayee’s life and achievements, a BJP leader said. “We want to keep Vajpayee’s memory alive and this will benefit the party during the elections. After all he was born in Gwalior and had a deep connect with the state,” he said.
The state government will also construct two memorials in his memory, one in Gwalior and other in Bhopal, where his deeds, important speeches, decisions he had taken for the benefits of the country and poems will be presented to motivate people.
Gorkhi Government School, where Vajpayee studied from class 6 to 8 will also be developed as a school of excellence school with smart class, planetarium and a museum. A library will also be set in the name of Vajapyee in all the smart cities of the state. Residents of Gwalior had raised the demand of constructing a memorial and improving the Gorkhi School on Friday.
Chouhan also announced that Global Skill park, four Shramoday Schools and Medical College, Vidisha will also be named after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
