Brave mom pounces on leopard to save son in north Mumbai

The 23-year-old mother, Pramila Rinjad, had stepped out to relieve herself. She wasn’t aware that her son Pranay had also followed her out of their shanty, when he was attacked by the leopard.

A brave mother scared away a leopard which was dragging her 3-year-old son into a nearby forest by leaping at the big cat, in north Mumbai.

The incident occurred in the tribal hamlet Chafa in Aarey Colony area in north Mumbai, which borders the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, forest officials said here on Wednesday.

The 23-year-old mother, Pramila Rinjad, had stepped out to relieve herself. She wasn’t aware that her son Pranay had also followed her out of their shanty, when he was attacked by the leopard.

After hearing his cries, the courageous young mother leapt at the leopard and drove it away, they said.

According to the mother, the leopard had come out of a dense thicket and pounced on her son, at around 9 pm on Monday.

“I pounced on it and screamed out loud,” the mother said.

The leopard later retreated into the bushes.

Alerted by mother’s screams, locals reached the spot and rushed the kid to the nearby hospital, where he was administered two stitches and discharged.
