Bypoll election result LIVE: The Election Commission of India has begun the counting of votes at 8am. Along with the bypoll elections across seven seats in five states, the polling body will also declare the results for the assembly elections in West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry.

However, a day before the polling began, the Bombay high court cancelled the assembly bypoll, stating that the process violates the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This cancellation, as per the high court, comes as a new MLA would have been in office for less than a year, with the term of the Goa legislative assembly ending on March 14, 2027.

Bypoll election result LIVE: The by-election in Gujarat's Umreth seat was held following the demise of Govindbhai Raijibhai Parmar. While a total of six candidates are contesting for the vacant seat, the key contest is expected between BJP's Harshad Parmar, who is the son of the late MLA, and Bhrugurajsinh Chauhan from Congress. Other candidates in the fray are Maulik Shah of the Bharatiya National Lok Dal and three other independent candidates - Jitesh Sevak, Nirupa Madhu, and Mahendra Parmar.

Bypoll election result LIVE: According to the Nagaland government, the seven candidates contesting for the Koridang (ST) seat are Daochir (BJP), Abenjang (NPP), T. Chalokumba (INC), Imtiwapang (IND), Major (Retd) Toshikaba (IND), Imchatoba Imchen (IND), and Wapangmeren (IND). The bypoll was called after the death of BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen (75) on November 11 last year.

Bypoll election result LIVE: In Dharmanagar, the bypoll was held following the passing of sitting MLA and Tripura Assembly Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen, said ECI. Key candidates for the seat include Jahar Chakraborti of the ruling BJP, Chayan Bhattacharjee of the Congress, and Amitabha Datta representing the CPI(M)-led Left Front.

Bypoll election result LIVE: In Karnataka, the Bagalkot seat fell vacant after the death of HY Meti (Meti Hullappa Yamanappa), and Davanagere South following the passing of Shamanur Shivashankarappa. The results for the same will be declared today.

In Rahuri, the death of Shivaji Bhanudas Kardile called for a fresh poll. Meanwhile, in Baramati, the election was called after the death of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash.
