A Class 9 student was stabbed to death allegedly by a senior over a dispute inside a toilet of his school in Gujarat’s Vadodara city on Friday, police said. The murder evoked comparisons to the killing of a seven-year-old in Haryana’s Gurugram last year that emerged as a test case for juvenile jurisprudence.

An official from the Vadi police station said the body of the 14-year-old was found inside the first-floor toilet near Class 10 with “multiple wounds all over his body inflicted with sharp weapons”.

Four students questioned by police said they saw the senior, who is on the run, stabbing the victim, commissioner of police Manoj Shashidhar said.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that there was a dispute between the murdered boy, who was a new entrant, and the other student for the past couple of days. “The exact reason behind their dispute is not known yet,” Shashidhar added.

Police said a school bag, which belongs to the accused, was found on the terrace of a temple near the school building with weapons, including three big knives, and a bottle filled with chilly powder water. Another 12-inch long knife was found near the body of the boy, an officer said.

An administrator of the school said Class 9 student had taken admission from this academic year, which began a fortnight ago. The administrator said the classes for secondary section starts at 12pm but the victim and the accused arrived at the school early when the session for primary standards was on.

“Around 11.50am, a group of primary students informed some teachers about the boy lying in a pool of blood. He had breathed his last before the ambulance could reach,” the school official added.

Last year, the seven-year-old Gurugram boy was also allegedly killed by a senior student. A Class 11 student was accused of slitting the throat of the Class 2 student in a school toilet on September 8, 2017.
