Prices of commercial LPG were hiked on Wednesday in a major development in India amid the ongoing West Asia conflict. The latest revision is driven by global energy supply disruptions.

Domestic cylinder prices, however, remain elevated following a recent hike earlier this month.

This is the second upward revision in commercial LPG rates in less than a month, adding to cost pressures for businesses such as hotels, restaurants and hostels.

What’s changed this time?

The highest jump has been seen in the price of the widely used 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder. In Delhi, the rate has climbed by 195.5 — from 1,883 on March 7 to 2,078.50 now — marking a 10.4% increase, earlier HT reported.

Earlier on March 7, commercial LPG prices had already been raised by 114.50. On the same day, domestic cooking gas (14.2 kg cylinder) was also increased by 60 across the country, taking the Delhi price to 913 — the highest since August 2023.

City-wise LPG prices (as of Wednesday)

Here’s a clear breakdown of LPG prices across four major cities, as per a report by Good Returns:

CitiesCommercial (19KG)Commercial (47.5 KG)Domestic ( 5 KG)Domestic (14.2 KG)
Delhi 2,078 4,348 317 913
Bengaluru 2,161 4,532 318 915
Chennai 2,246 4,745 323 928
Mumbai 2,2031 4, 226 317 912

The repeated increase in commercial LPG prices is likely to hit small and medium businesses the hardest.

Establishments that depend heavily on bulk LPG — especially in the food and hospitality sector — are now facing rising operational costs within a short span of time.

ATF prices see even steeper surge

Alongside LPG, aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices have seen a rise on Wednesday.

For domestic airlines in Delhi, ATF prices have jumped from 96,638.14 per kilolitre on March 1 to 207,341.22 per kilolitre — a surge of 114.55%, earlier HT reported.

For international airlines, prices have risen from $816.91 per kilolitre to $1,690.81 per kilolitre, marking a 107% increase.

Who controls fuel pricing?

India’s LPG and ATF retail market is dominated by three state-run oil marketing companies: Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

With prices rising across cities, both households and businesses are feeling the impact.
