The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party today took a swipe at the BJP after Tricolour at the ruling party’s headquarters slid to the ground when BJP chief Amit Shah was trying to unfurl it this morning. The BJP chief, however, quickly caught hold of the string and pulled the flag up and wrapped the ritual with a salute.

However, the video of the gaffe soon made it to social media and was picked up by the opposition to target the BJP.

The Congress posted a video of the incident on its official Twitter handle.

“Those who cannot handle the flag, how will they handle the country?” the Congress tweeted.

“If those people who have treated the flag with contempt for over 50 years had not done so, the flag would not have been insulted like it was today,” the party said.

Those that give “certificates of patriotism” to people, do not know the etiquettes of the national anthem, the Congress said.

Taking a dig at BJP, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal also tweeted the video of the incident:

But this wasn’t the first such incident when the national flag fell during a ceremony. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti faced a similar embarrassing moment in 2016.
