Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir is BJP candidate from East Delhi, sitting MP from New Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi will again contest from the same seat.

Ex-cricketer Gautam Gambhir is BJP candidate from East Delhi, sitting MP from New Delhi, Meenakshi Lekhi will again contest from the same seat, the party announced on Monday.

The BJP on Sunday had announced the list of four candidates for Delhi. The party retained all its sitting MPs with Harsh Vardhan contesting from Chandni Chowk, Manoj Tiwari from North East Delhi, Ramesh Bidhuri from South Delhi and Pravesh Verma from West Delhi.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, BJP won all the seven seats in Delhi.

While joining Bharatiya Janata Party on March 22, the former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir had said that he was ‘impressed by prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision’.

“I am impressed by prime minister Narendra Modi’s vision... I have contributed to the field of cricket and now hope to do more for the country,” the 37-year-old cricketer had said.

Inducting the former cricketer into the party, finance minister Arun Jaitley had said, “Gambhir has excelled in his career and the party hopes to utilizes his talent. The BJP will benefit from his talent.”
