Maharashtra CM oath ceremony highlights: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra chief minister for the third time on Thursday, swapping roles with Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde, who was sworn in as deputy CM along with Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Ajit Pawar. Following the swearing-in ceremony, the first cabinet meeting of the new Mahayuti government, chaired by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, is underway at Mumbai's Mantralaya.

• BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Maharashtra chief minister for his third term on Thursday, while Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde was sworn in as deputy CM along with Nationalist Congress Party's (NCP) Ajit Pawar.
• The swearing-in ceremony was a star-studded affair attended by Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan along with top politicians, including Union ministers Amit Shah, Nitin Gadkari, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanth among others.
• The delayed swearing-in ceremony of the Maharashtra government under Devendra Fadnavis comes after two weeks of intense negotiations following the assembly polls, voting for which took place on November 20 and results were declared on November 23.
• Eknath Shinde is said to have agreed to take up the role of deputy CM after reluctance, with his party urging him to be part of the Maharashtra government.

Devendra Fadnavis had emerged as the frontrunner for the top post as the BJP alone secured 132 seats in the 288-member House. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Maharashtra, also known as ‘Mahayuti’, includes the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena and the Ajit Pawar camp of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).
