The BJP has so far won 286 seats across West Bengal, Assam, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, while the Congress has won 89 seats, DMK at 63, TMC at 69 and Vijay's TVK at 107, as per the latest data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The BJP is making big inroads in Bengal with a massive lead on many seats as per trends, and is also giving a good fight in Assam and Puducherry. In Kerala, the Congress-led UDF is performing well so far, crossing the halfway mark according to ECI trends. Meanwhile, superstar Vijay's TVK has made a strong debut in Tamil Nadu, crossing the halfway mark of 118 and dealing a huge blow to MK Stalin's DMK.
Here are some key updates:
Winners so far: The ECI has so far declared winners on some seats in Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Assam, with official announcements still awaited in Bengal. However, the BJP is near the halfway mark of 200 in Bengal according to trends and the TMC is trailing.
Mamata Banerjee's big claims: As trends hinted at a BJP sweep for Bengal, Mamata Banerjee issued an urgent message for TMC workers, asking them to wait till sunset to see the trends change. She alleged that her party had a lead on 100 seats but the ECI was holding on to that data.
No result for one Bengal seat: With a surprise ECI announcement on Saturday, all 285 polling stations in Bengal's Falta assembly seat will undergo repolling on May 21, and therefore won't be part of today's results announcement.

How many Assembly seats everywhere? West Bengal has 294 assembly seats, Tamil Nadu has 243, Kerala has a 140-member assembly, Assam has 126 seats and Puducherry has 30. While Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry voted in a single phase, Bengal saw two-phased polling. In the 294-member Legislative Assembly of Bengal, the magic number to secure a victory is 148. The majority mark is 118 in Tamil Nadu, 71 in Kerala, 64 in Assam and 16 in Puducherry.

Where did the chief ministers contest from? In Assam, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma contested the Jalukbari seat. Meanwhile, Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee fought from the Bhabanipur seat against BJP's Suvendu Adhikari, and Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan contested from the Dharmadam seat. Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin contested the polls from his bastion Kolathur, and Puducherry chief minister N Rangasamy contested from the Thattanchavady seat.

ECI vote-counting in Bengal LIVE: West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal has said that counting agents, and counting supervisors are all ready and have undergone training multiple times.
“There is no possibility of any disruption anywhere, everything will happen as per the rules...200 companies of CAPF have been deployed for the counting centres,” Kumar told ANI.

Except West Bengal, elections everywhere else were held in a single phase.
In Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, elections took place on April 9, for Tamil Nadu the election date was April 23, alongside Bengal that also went to polls on the same day in the first phase. The second and final phase in Bengal took place on April 29.
