Four killed as rain, storm lash west Uttar Pradesh districts
MeT department said that thunderstorm and winds gusting up to 70 kmph are very likely to hit parts of Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Aligarh, Gautambudh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Etah, Badaun, Ghaziabad districts and adjoining areas till Sunday morning.
Four people were killed when a storm accompanied by rain struck Agra division of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.
Three persons were killed when the roof of an under-construction house collapsed on them in Tanora village of Firozabad on Saturday evening during storm and rain.
Owner of the house, Saudan Singh, was away when the incident occurred.
The deceased included his wife Sonkali (30) and two labourers, Vinod Kumar (25) and Mahaveer Singh (45), who were working at the site.
Singh’s 12-year-old daughter Nandini sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
“The under-construction house was struck by high speed winds and rain. The labourers had laid an iron net to construct the concrete roof. They were installing electricity fittings when the strong wind blew away the net and they got trapped under the debris,” said R K Singh, SP (city) Firozabad.

Mainpuri SP, Ajay Shankar Rai said a farmer died when a tree fell on him due to high speed wind.
MeT department said that thunderstorm accompanied by a squall and winds gusting up to 70 kmph are very likely to hit parts of Agra, Mathura, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Aligarh, Gautambudh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Etah, Badaun, Ghaziabad districts and adjoining areas till Sunday morning.
Agra also witnessed a dust storm and rain on Saturday evening. There were reports of damage to a house in Saiyyan rural area of Agra during the storm, but no casualty was reported.
Mathura and Hathras saw similar weather but there were no reports of casualty till the last reports came in.
The National Capital Region (NCR) and its adjoining areas witnessed a fresh thunderstorm on Saturday afternoon with gusty winds, followed by rain in some parts.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials had in the morning issued a forecast of a thunderstorm in various parts of Delhi and NCR.
On May 13, at least 51 people were killed and 83 others injured in a severe storm that hit parts of Uttar Pradesh.
On May 9, several parts of the state were hit by a severe storm that left 18 people dead and 27 others injured. Five people died in Etawah district, three each in Mathura, Aligarh and Agra, two in Firozabad and one each in Hathras and Kanpur Dehat.
Thunderstorms and lightning on May 2-3 killed 134 people and injured over 400 in UP, Rajasthan, Telangana, Utttarakhand and Punjab. UP was the worst affected, accounting for 80 deaths, most of them in Agra district in the western part of the state.
