India Pakistan news live: Residents living near the Line of Control who had fled their homes due to intense shelling by the Pakistani military began returning on Monday. Officials said people were allowed to go back after bomb disposal teams ensured that no unexploded shells remained in the residential areas.

"We are happy that a ceasefire has been reached between the two countries. We are also hopeful that Pakistan will not resort to such activities again," Arshad Ahmad, a resident of Uri’s Kamalkote area, told PTI.

Several returning villagers also expressed gratitude to the army and security forces for supporting them during the crisis.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav met with Imteyaz’s family to offer condolences and acknowledged the bravery of the Indian Army. “We have paid tribute to Bihar's son Mohammad Imtiaz. He was martyred in the security of the country. I also met his son; tomorrow, I will also meet his family. We salute the Indian Army that, like every time, this time also, they have given a befitting reply to Pakistan...,” he said.

Earlier, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also paid homage to the fallen soldier and announced a state honorarium for his family in recognition of his sacrifice.

India Pakistan news live: Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions, J&K People's Conference chief Sajad Lone said most residents in border areas have fled their homes out of fear. 

“This is a border area... 80 per cent of people living in border areas have vacated their homes and moved to safer places... there is a lot of fear here... the state government should provide financial help to the affected people,” he said.

India Pakistan news live: Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on Monday welcomed the recent understanding between India and Pakistan, stressing the need for de-escalation and stronger counter-terrorism measures to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Wong held discussions with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistani Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, urging both sides to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire.

“I know many Australians are concerned by recent hostilities between India and Pakistan. I’ve spoken with @DrSJaishankar and @MIshaqDar50 to welcome the ceasefire and urge respect for its terms. De-escalation and counter-terrorism efforts are critical to regional peace & security,” Wong posted on X.

This comes after Operation Sindoor, which marked a major spike in tensions between India and Pakistan, with both nations involved in successive military engagements.

India Pakistan news live: The Divisional Commissioner of Jammu announced on Monday that the Education Department has decided to reopen educational institutions in non-border districts, following a review of the situation. Schools and colleges in border districts, however, will remain closed until further notice.

Earlier in the day, authorities stated that all government and private schools, colleges, and educational institutions in Jammu province — except medical colleges — will remain closed on May 13 due to the prevailing conditions.

India Pakistan news live: The Chinese military on Monday dismissed reports that its largest military cargo aircraft had transported arms to Pakistan and issued a warning of legal action against those circulating such claims.

As per a PTI report, the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAF) denied that its Xi’an Y-20 transport aircraft delivered any supplies to Pakistan.

According to a statement published on the Chinese Defence Ministry's official website, the Air Force clarified that the widely circulated online claims about the “Y-20 transporting relief supplies to Pakistan” were false.

The PLAF also shared screenshots of misleading posts, each marked with the red word "rumour", to counter the false narratives.

“The internet is not beyond the law! Those who produce and spread military-related rumours will be held legally responsible!” the report stated.

The denial is noteworthy, particularly in light of the recent agreement between India and Pakistan to cease all firing and military actions and Islamabad’s urgent need for replenishments.

India Pakistan news live: A suspicious object recovered by police on Friday was successfully defused in Jaisalmer on Monday, bringing the situation under control.

Meanwhile, a bomb threat was reported earlier today at Jaipur's Sawai Mansingh Stadium. According to Additional SP Lalit Sharma, the threat was sent to the official email ID of the Sports Council.

Authorities responded swiftly by evacuating the stadium, and the Bomb Disposal Squad, assisted by the Dog Squad, began their investigation.

“The mail was sent to the official email ID of the Sports Council. Acting on this, the stadium was vacated. The Bomb Disposal Squad, with the help of the Dog Squad, is conducting an investigation,” Sharma told ANI.

India Pakistan news live: Imran Raza stood quietly at Patna airport on Monday as he received the mortal remains of his father, BSF sub-inspector Mohammed Imtiaz, who was killed in Pakistani firing along the international border in Jammu and Kashmir’s RS Pura sector.

Imran shared his pride, saying, “I am proud of my father and salute all those who sacrificed their lives for the country.”

He added, “My father was a very strong person. I last spoke to him at 5:30 am on May 10 (Saturday). He had suffered an injury to his right leg.” Unfortunately, Sub-inspector Imtiaz succumbed to his injuries later that evening.

Following a guard of honour and wreath-laying ceremony by security personnel at the airport, the body was transported to his village Narayanpur in Saran district.

His final rites will be conducted with full state honours later in the day.

India Pakistan news live: A total of 162 people from Telangana who were residing in border states have arrived at Telangana Bhavan in Delhi, the state government announced on Monday amid India-Pakistan tensions

According to an official release, the group includes 56 individuals from various institutions in Jammu and Kashmir and 106 from Punjab.

Of these, 130 have already left for their hometowns after receiving the required assistance. The remaining individuals are currently staying at Telangana Bhavan and will depart soon, the statement added.

Airport Director Dhirendra Singh said, "The airport has reopened for civilian flight operations. This brings relief to the tourism industry here."

Amid ongoing India-Pakistan tensions, Kangra Airport officials announced on Saturday that civilian flight operations would remain suspended until May 15.

However, airport authorities clarified that the facility would remain available for “any military activities.”

Earlier today the Airport Authority of India (AAI) announced the immediate lifting of the temporary closure of 32 airports in northern and western India, which had been shut due to heightened India-Pakistan tensions.

The reopening follows a peaceful night along the Line of Control (LoC) on May 11 and 12—the first calm period in several days after Pakistan’s intense retaliation to Operation Sindoor.

India Pakistan news live: Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah visited Poonch to meet the family of two children who were killed in Pakistani shelling.

The shelling targeted civilian areas and came in the wake of Indian Army strikes on nine terror camps across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). These strikes were carried out in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, most of them tourists.

Officials involved in the aftermath have stated that on-ground evidence challenges Pakistan’s claim of striking only military positions.

DGMO press briefing live: During a special briefing on Operation Sindoor, the Indian military displayed debris believed to be from a PL-15 air-to-air missile, which is of Chinese origin and allegedly used by Pakistan in the attack on India.

The wreckage of YIHA and Songar drones, both of Turkish origin, which were shot down by Indian forces, was also presented.

Vice Admiral AN Pramod, while addressing the special defence briefing on India-Pakistan military action, said, "The Indian Navy operates as a composite network force capable of simultaneously addressing threats from all domains - air, surface and subsurface - through amalgamation of advanced sensors synchronised on the combat management systems. In effect, the maritime force is able to ensure persistent surveillance, detection and identification for a comprehensive maritime domain awareness."

Indian armed forces on Monday reiterated that all military bases in India are secure and fully prepared to take on anyone who threatens the sovereignty and security of India.

According to Indian defence forces, India's counter included employment of point-defence weapons such as low-level air defence guns, shoulder-fired MANPADS (Man-Portable Air-Defence Systems), and short-range surface-to-air missiles (SAMs).

For broader coverage, India also employs area-defence platforms such as air defence fighter jets and long-range surface-to-air missile systems.

“Our battle-proven systems stood the test of time and take them head-on. Another highlight has been the stellar performance of the indigenous air defence system, the Akash system. Putting together and operationalising the potent AD environment has been possible only because of budgetary and policy support from the government of India in the last decade,” said Air Marshal AK Bharti during a special DGMO briefing.

Talking about Operation Sindoor, Air Marshal Bharti said that the Indian Army, Navy, and the primary air defence assets of the Indian Air Force were all deployed in response to the recent Pakistani escalation. 

“India’s robust air defence (AD) system consists of a wide range of multi-layered capabilities and weapon systems designed to counter aerial threats at various levels,” he said.
