The body of Srinivas Kuchibhotla, a 32-year-old engineer who was shot dead in a Kansas City bar in a suspected hate crime, arrived in Hyderabad on Monday night.

His wife, Sunayana, and a couple of his friends from the US brought the body in a special flight of Air India that landed in the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad on the outskirts of the city around 9.40pm. The flight was an hour late.
State transport minister K Mahender Reddy was present from the Telangana government when the body was handed over to Kuchibhotla’s elder brother, KK Sastry, and a few relatives. Kuchibhotla’s father K Madhusudhana Chary was also present. The minister placed a wreath on the body and paid his respects.
The state government helped in transporting the body from the airport to Kuchibhotla’s residence at Bachupalli. The airport police made elaborate arrangements to prevent crowds. Entry to the area was restricted, even for the media, till the convoy with the body left the airport.
According to sources close to his family, the cremation of Kuchibhotla’s mortal remains will take place at Mahaprasthanam modern cremation ground at Jubilee Hills around 11.30am on Tuesday.
Kuchibhotla was shot dead by a white man at a suburban bar, an attack that appears to be racially motivated.
