The constable was identified as Mohammad Salim Shah. He was killed by the suspected militants after his abduction on Friday night, a police spokesperson said.

Shah had been working as a special police officer and had been recently promoted, officials said. He was undergoing police training in Kathua. Special police officers are a force of volunteers.

The constable had come home in Muthalhama of Kulgam district on leave. No militant outfit has so far claimed responsibility for the killing.

Shah is the 25th policeman killed by militants in J&K this year. Earlier this month, police constable Javeed Ahmad Dar was abducted from his house at Vehil in Shopian district and killed by militants.

Last month, Army soldier Aurangzeb was abducted from a private vehicle when he was going home for Eid in Shopian. His body was recovered from a Pulwama village.
