Unidentified gunmen killed Border Security Force (BSF) jawan Ramzan Parray at his residence in Hajin, Bandipora district, late on Wednesday evening. Three family members were also injured in the attack.
A police spokesperson confirmed the incident. “While the jawan was killed, the injured family members were shifted to a hospital for treatment,” he added.
Jammu and Kashmir deputy general of police SP Vaid said three to four militants barged into the BSF jawan’s home and dragged him out. “When they resisted, the attackers opened fire — fatally injuring Parray. He died later.”
According to Vaid, Parray had returned home to north Kashmir on vacation. “The militants accused Parray of being behind the cordon-and-search operation that took place in the area last night,” he added.
The BSF later released an official statement condemning the killing. “Constable Rameez Parrey, a BSF personnel who was on leave, was killed by terrorists in a cowardly manner today,” it said.
Security forces have cordoned the area, and massive search operations are being conducted to nab the militants.
An Army officer was abducted and killed by militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian in May this year.
