Unfazed by criticism over not supporting the Congress candidate in Lucknow despite joining the party recently, actor turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha on Friday said, “Main pati dharam nibhaane aya hoon (I am here to perform duty as a husband).”

Seeking votes for his wife and SP candidate Poonam Sinha at a public meeting in Daliganj, he said, “I am head of the Ramayan family and home minister of the Ramayan Parivar (Poonam Sinha) is contesting against the country’s home minister.”

The Congress’s Lucknow candidate Acharya Pramod Krishnam has accused Shatrughan Sinha of harming the Congress by seeking votes for the SP candidate.

Shatrughan Sinha once again heaped praise on Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, describing him as a leader of the future as well as a youth icon. “I have an old friendship with Akhilesh Yadav,” he said.

‘WRONG TO DIVIDE GODS ON CASTE LINES’

Speaking at the same rally, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav criticised chief minister Yogi Adityanath who had earlier said the Hindu god Hanuman was a Dalit. Akhilesh said it was wrong to divide gods on caste lines.
