Man arrested for TMC councillor’s murder in Bengal

Police on Monday arrested a man in connection with the murder of Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Anupam Dutta, officials familiar with the matter said.

Dutta was shot in the head from close range by unidentified people while he was visiting a park on North Station Road in Agarpara on Sunday evening. The councillor sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Barrackpore city police commissioner Manoj Verma said, “A firearm and a mobile phone were seized from the arrested man.” Probe is also on in the murder of Congress councillor Tapan Kandu, police said.

Four-time Congress councillor Tapan Kandu was also shot dead in a separate incident on Monday. The Congress demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the incident.
