The central government on Wednesday said the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) received 10,562 complaints since 2017.

The minister of minority affairs Smriti Irani revealed the same while replying to a question in Lok Sabha.
According to the minister, 7,508 complaints were made by the Muslim community, Christian community members made 712 complaints since 2017, whereas persons from the Sikh community lodged 941 complaints.
People from the Buddhist community lodged 259 complaints while 366 complaints were made by members of the Jain community, the minister said in a reply to the question posed by Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi MP D Ravikumar.
The Parsi community members registered 56 complaints across five years.
The highest number of complaints were registered at 2,076 in 2021-22.
The highest number of grievances filed by persons from all communities was reported from Uttar Pradesh at 4,576.
The national Capital saw 1,030 cases registered by persons from all minority groups, followed by 578 complaints from Maharashtra and 444 complaints in Madhya Pradesh by all communities since 2017.
In her reply to Ravikumar, Irani clarified that the ministry will not form district-level committees for the welfare of minorities.
“According to NCM Act-1992, there is no provision for the constitution of district-level committees for the welfare of minorities,” she said.
