Parliament Monsoon Session Highlights: A special debate on ‘Operation Sindoor’ began in the Lok Sabha on Monday, with defence minister Rajnath Singh delivering the opening remarks in Parliament and warning Pakistan that strikes will resume if it resorts to any misadventure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the speeches given by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during the debate. PM Modi said that Singh had given “an insightful perspective on the success of India’s security apparatus and the courage of our armed forces.”

The Prime Minister also shared Jaishankar's speech on X, while calling it “outstanding”. “He highlighted how the world has clearly heard India’s perspective on fighting the menace of terrorism through Operation Sindoor,” PM Modi said.

Operation Sindoor, which was launched on May 7, marks the India's response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives, mostly of tourists.

Rajnath Singh in Lok Sabha

  • Defence minister Rajnath Singh hailed the Indian armed forces for Operation Sindoor and noted that the Centre gave them full freedom to choose their targets. He said this was done because the operation's 'politico-military objective' was to punish Pakistan for waging a proxy war in the form of terrorism.
  • Rajnath Singh said that the objective of Operation Sindoor was not to start a war, but to force the adversary to bow down.
  • Rajnath Singh revealed in Lok Sabha that more than 100 terrorists were killed during Operation Sindoor in May. He said that the Indian armed forces' precision strikes hit nine terrorist infrastructure targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
  • The defence minister also told the Parliament that India halted its military action against Pakistan in May as it achieved all its political and military objectives. "Saying that this operation was paused under any pressure is baseless and absolutely wrong. In my political life, I have always tried not to speak lies ever,” Singh said.

Operation Mahadev

In an anti-terror operation, named ‘Operation Mahadev, three terrorists have been killed in the Harwan area near Dachigam National Park in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.
