6 students commit suicide, 3 more make attempts after MP board results declared

The students attempted suicide after facing disappointment in their board exam results.

Disappointed with their final results, six students committed suicide, while three others survived suicide attempts, within hours of the Madhya Pradesh Board announcing the Class 10 and 12 results, according to police reports from different districts.

Two deaths took place in Bhopal, two in neighbouring Sehore district and two in Chhattarpur district. The attempted suicides were reported from Gwalior and Damoh.

Bhopal police said that Karna Kanade, a student of class 12 jumped from the fifth floor of the residential building in Koh-e-Fiza. Police said according to preliminary information, Karna had failed in the exam last year also and when he failed to clear the exam this year too he committed suicide.

Bhavna Raikwar resident of Talaiya area of Bhopal committed suicide by hanging herself after she found she had failed in the class 10 exam, police said.

Class 10 student of Amlaha village, Sehore district, Neha Chauhan hanged herself in her home after failing the board exam, police said. In another case in Tikamor village of Sehore, Kiran Barde of Class 10 consumed poison and was hospitalized. She died a few hours later.

Mamta Kushwaha and Jyoti Kushwaha both students of class 10 of the same school and living in Sanjay Nagar of Gwalior attempted suicide after they failed in the exam. They were rushed to the hospital where their condition is said to be critical, police said.

Similarly in Rusali village of Damoh, Pooja Ahirwar of Class 12 attempted suicide by consuming poison and has been hospitalised, according to police reports.

Last year, 12 students had killed themselves, while three others attempted suicide after the MP Board declared the Class 10 and 12 results.
