Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader Udhayanidhi Stalin on Thursday filed his nomination for the April 23 assembly polls and declared assets worth 20.64 crore in his affidavit, roughly three times more than his father, Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin.

Accompanied by senior cabinet colleagues including former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran, Udhayanidhi filed his nomination from the Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni assembly constituency for the second time.

In 2021, he won by 93,285 votes.

Udhayanidhi was sworn in as a minister of youth welfare and sports development in December 2022. He was elevated as the deputy chief minister in September 2024.

According to the affidavit, Udhayanidhi declared moveable assets of 12.92 crore and immoveable assets worth 7.72 crore. Besides, he has undertaken construction for 42.92 lakh on the immovable properties owned by him, the affidavit said.

Stalin, who filed his nomination papers on Monday from Kolathur assembly seat, had declared assets worth 6.25 crore.

As per the affidavit filed till Thursday, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay is the richest candidate with assets of 603.20 crore. Vijay is contesting in two constituencies with Perambur and the other being Tiruchirappali (East).

Aadhav Arjuna, who is the TVK’s general secretary and the party’s election campaign management had declared assets worth 197.52 crore. Arjuna is contesting in Villivakkam seat in Chennai.

Udhayanidhi’s wife Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi, who is employed as a director in a private firm, owns 13.25 crore worth of moveable properties but does not hold any immoveable assets, the affidavit said.

Udhayanidhi, an alumni of Loyola College, reported an income of 10.40 lakh for the 2024-25 period while his wife Kiruthiga declared income of 2.92 crore for 2024-25.

Udhayanidhi holds a cash of 50,000 while his wife Kiruthiga 75,000. He owns a defender car valued at 1 crore and an Innova worth 23 lakh.

In his savings accounts, he has deposited 23 lakh and another separate account was opened with 10 lakh for taking up poll related expenses.

Details about immoveable properties include agriculture lands measuring 10.47 acre in Sunguvarchathiram near Chennai. He also owns residential property in Velachery Chennai measuring 2,400 sq ft, the affidavit said.

On liabilities, he owes outstanding dues of 1.55 lakh, it added.

According to his affidavit, 10 cases are pending against him for hurting religious sentiments.
