A prominent Pune builder, Ravindra Sankla of the Siddhivinayak Group, and owner of Hotel Le Méridien in the city Ramkumar Agrawal were arrested along with two politicians by the Crime Investigation Department in a land-grab case on Tuesday evening.
The four have been accused of sending hired goons to forcibly take possession of a plot in Pune's Balewadi area belonging to one Pradeep Kumar Dorge, assault on a security guard and threats to kill the guard.
Additional DG SPS Yadav confirmed the arrests of the two businessmen, ex-Sena corporator Ajeya Bhosale and NCP corporator Rajesh Pillai.
CID sources said Dorge had lodged a complaint against unknown persons at Chatu-shrungi police station in March 2006. The case was later handed over to CID for investigation.
Sankla's Siddhivinayak Group has a number of residential and commercial complexes in Pune and the Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits and a multiplex in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Agrawal owns Le Méridien, situated in the heart of Pune and the favourite hangout for the city's who's who.
Ajeya Bhosale, former Sena corporator, had contested the October 2009 Assembly elections on a Sena ticket from Wadgaon-Sheri constituency but lost. NCP corporator Pillai, from Pimpri-Chinchwad, has many property-related cases filed against him.
