Trader assaulted in Bihar for informing police about sex racket

A shopkeeper was assaulted on the suspicion of informing police about a sex racket in southwest Bihar’s Kaimur district on Sunday.

Police said Raj Kumar Chaurasia was attacked allegedly by goons of Shahid Rayeen, who was earlier arrested along with a girl on the charge of running the sex racket at Bhabua, headquarters of Kaimur district, 197 km southwest of Patna. Shahid is the son Badaruddin Rayeen, a municipal ward councillor and an influential person of the town.

The police said eight persons reached Chaurasia’s grocery shop in Chakbandi Road locality of the town in the evening, dragged him out and badly assaulted him with batons and sharp edged weapons. His shop was located in the same building from where Shahid was arrested and identity proofs and photographs of many girls were recovered, they added.

Seriously injured Chaurasia was first taken to sadar (government) hospital, which referred him to the trauma centre of Institute of Medical Sciences- Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, 95 km northwest of Bhabua, the police said.

The police said an FIR for murderous attack had been registered against five named and three unknown persons on the basis of Chaurasia’s statement and raids were on to arrest them. Those named in the FIR were Badaruddin Rayeen’s second son Raja Rayeen, Bablu Ansari, Ekramul Hasan, Umesh Gonr and Jay Prakash Gupta, the police added.
