You may have liked that image of a Rs 2,000 currency note that is going viral on Twitter, but don’t rush to the ATM just yet.

There is no confirmation from authorities that these pink and white are a reality. But Twitter is still obsessing over the potential addition to our wallets.

On October 21, The Hindu BusinessLine reported that such notes will be in circulation and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has completed all the necessary preparation for its introduction. However, it also states clearly that there is no official word from either the RBI or the government on the introduction of the new denomination note.

But that didn’t deter Twitterati from speculating about it:

Others requested verification from the authorities:

Later this evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the abolition of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 currency notes, in a dramatic move aimed at stamping out corruption and illicit funds from the economy.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) will issue a new set of currency notes of Rs 2000 and Rs 500 , with a completely new design, later.

Looks like it is time to colour coordinate your wallets as the new currency notes pour in!
