Trouble started at Khurgan village under Kairana police station when UP farmers working in their fields were attacked by Haryana villagers last evening, they said.

The situation was brought under control after the police intervened.

Deputy Superintendent of Police A K Shukla said that senior officials of the two states will soon hold a meeting to resolve the boundary dispute that has often resulted in clashes in the border area.

Six districts of Western UP -- Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Baghpat, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr and Aligarh -- witness frequent clashes between farmers of the two states over boundary dispute.

Security has been tightened at the border after the incident, they said.
