18 in fray for mayor?s post

NO CANDIDATE for mayoral post withdrew his nomination papers on the last day of withdrawal of nomination papers here on Thursday. Now, there will be 18 candidates in the fray for the post of Mayor. Two-dozen candidates withdrew their nomination papers for the post of corporator from various wards. Now around 702 candidates will remained in the fray in 70 wards of the corporation.

Now, there will be 18 candidates in the fray for the post of Mayor. Two-dozen candidates withdrew their nomination papers for the post of corporator from various wards.

Now around 702 candidates will remained in the fray in 70 wards of the corporation.

According to the returning officer NN Lal, “There would be 18 candidates in the fray including BJP candidate Anju Chaudhary, Congress candidate Ramesh Gupta, SP candidate Sitaram Jaiswal, BSP supported candidate Chhedi Jaiswal, NLP candidate Mohd Islam, Apna Dal candidate Mohd Arif alias Bhakaloo, independent candidate Prof Anirudh Prasad, Harigovind Gupta, Pawan Kumar Singh, Arvind Jaiswal and Bindu Devi and others.

After the withdrawal of nomination papers, the candidates of various political parties have also step up their election campaign.

Congress has divided the city into 12 sectors and each sector consists of five wards. The state secretary of the party Dr Syed Jamal claimed that October 31, the polling date for council election is very significant for Congress, as it is the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi. On the day, the Congress would register victory in this election which would start the Congress revival in UP, he added.

Samajwadi Party has also constituted election campaign committee and duties have been distributed among the party leaders.

Party has divided the city into 15 zones and state minister Jaiprakash Yadav along with SP MLC “Ganesh Shanker Pandey will be the incharge of the election campaign.

BJP has also constituted committees at different level for effective election campaign in favour of Anju Chaudhary.
