The victims were proceeding to Nanjangud on a pilgrimage to the Sreekanteshwara temple when the mishap occurred in the early hours at Hosa Ramenahalli village, they said.

The deceased were identified as Lingamma (65) and Veena (40), police sources told PTI. While all the passengers except the driver were hurt in the mishap, a five year-old child had a miraculous escape when it was thrown out of the vehicle and found without a scratch in a nearby dry canal.

A hunt was on to nab the driver of the vehicle.
