The two girls approached him after reading an advertisement, the police said. He claimed to be an Indian agent for a US-based modelling agency.
“They were cheated by a man who lives in DLF (Phase 2) in Gurgaon. The accused took Rs 1.97 lakh from them and promised to get them a modelling assignment in the US. Later, he took another Rs 4 lakh. When the girls did not receive any positive reply from him, they realised they have been duped. The victims’ father filed a complaint on Friday night,” said investigation officer Kuldeep Kishor.
The case was investigated by the economic offences wing. A case under Section 420 and 406 has been registered at the DLF Phase 2 police station.
The police suspect other girls in Delhi-NCR were also duped.
