273 people airlifted from snow-bound areas in J&K

As many as 273 people, including 12 patients, stranded in far-flung snow-bound areas in Jammu and Kashmir, were airlifted by IAF helicopters in the past two days.

As many as 273 people, including 12 patients, stranded in far-flung snow-bound areas in Jammu and Kashmir, were airlifted by IAF helicopters in the past two days.

Altogether 138 people were airlifted from Marwah, Warwan and Dachan areas in Jammu region's Kishtwar district and 135 from Gurez and Karnah sectors in Kashmir, officials said.

Some 12 patients were among those rescued, they said adding those airlifted from Kishtwar were stranded there for the past few weeks.

Twenty-six trapped people, including some patients, availed the IAF chopper service from border town Karnah to Kupwara, the officials said.

The Jammu and Kashmir government had sought the help of IAF to airlift stranded passengers from snow-bound areas.
