After killing Rakesh Pal, a dreaded criminal in an encounter at Pratapgarh railway station early on Wednesday morning and working out several other cases they were in the celebration mode when they were rudely shaken by a wireless message about the loot at a petrol pump on the outskirts of the city by some youths. It was around 9.45 pm when four youths reached Ghanshyam filling station on two motorcycles.

Two employees Harischandra and Amit Kumar were at the petrol pump. Taking them as customers Harish Kumar came out of the cabin without realising what was in store for him. He was allegedly surrounded and attacked with the butt of pistols.

Meanwhile, another bike screeched to a halt at the petrol pump. Three youths, who were riding it, barged into the cabin to overpower the other employee Amit Kumar. After attacking both the employees with the butt of pistols, the miscreants collected around Rs 1.2 lakh from the cabin and left the place.

Meanwhile, the employees informed the petrol pump owner about the incident.

The police too were immediately informed and they spread out in the area to apprehend the fleeing youths, who tried to loot some occupants of a car in Sarai Inayat in the meantime and in the process also fired at them.

One of the car occupants contacted his relative, who is a Samajwadi Party leader on the mobile phone. The leader, in turn, told the SSP. The district police chief alerted the entire trans-Ganga police who swung into action immediately.

Around 11 pm three youths riding a motorcycle were stopped by cops near Andawa. But instead of stopping the youths allegedly opened fire at the police personnel and took to Sahson road. Meanwhile, the chasing cops caught on with the youths near Rahimapur and fired at them. Within moments all the three were down on the road. They were dead. The police recovered a revolver and two pistols from their possession.

Later on Thursday morning they were identified as Dhirendra Kumar, a resident of 75/2A Loco Colony, Civil Lines, Deepu Raawat, a resident of 4B/2 Muirabad and Vijay Kumar Rawat, a resident of 24 Lowther Road, George Town.

On their part, cops had no record to prove that the killed youth were habitual criminals. Three other youths said to be accomplices of the killed youths managed to escape. The police feel one of them identified by them as Manish was probably hit by a police bullet but he managed to escape with minor injury.

The police said, they were on the trail of the trio and would find them soon.
