5 held for assaulting doctor

Five residents of Kisan Nagar, Thane (West) were arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a doctor in Thane. Megha Pol reports.

Five residents of Kisan Nagar, Thane (West) were arrested on Thursday for allegedly assaulting a doctor in Thane.

Satyavan, one of the accused, was admitted to the Ashtavinayak Hospital for five days as he was suffering from dengue. On the day he was about to get discharged, the hospital authorities submitted a bill of Rs 13,350 to him. The accused and one of his family members assumed they were being overcharged and allegedly fought with the doctors and nurses. They ran away with the patient while he was still on IV.

They took a file which belonged to some other patient, said R.S. Munde, police inspector, Srinagar police station. The hospital authorities called the patient’s family asking them to return the file and pay the bill.

The family asked the authorities to send a doctor and collect the amount. Satish Mohite, a doctor and the hospital manager went to their place on Wednesday. When Mohite reached, the five allegedly attacked him. Jankar, one of the accused is an NCP worker.

Mohite who was injured and admitted to the Thane civil hospital and was discharged on Thursday evening.
