THE KHANDWA police on Sunday arrested five activists of the banned Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), including two women members of the organisation.
The activists were arrested in connection with the clash that had occurred in Khandwa on April 11. As part of the operation to nab the troublemakers after the incident, Aqueel, Javed and Asif were caught and interrogated. Two women members Asia and Rafia, were also arrested, said Khandwa SP DC Sagar.
The police recovered objectionable literature pertaining to the activities of SIMI from the accused. The arrests have been made under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act 1967. Three separate cases were registered against the accused under various sections. The ban on SIMI was extended in February 2006.
