6 transport dept officials suspended in Chanduali trucker death case

A passenger tax officer and five transport department constables have been suspended, after an FIR was lodged against them for allegedly beating a truck driver to death, a senior officer said in Chandauli today.

A passenger tax officer and five transport department constables have been suspended, after an FIR was lodged against them for allegedly beating a truck driver to death, a senior officer said in Chandauli on Wenesday.

Five constables Manoj Singh, C B Singh, Gunjan Tiwari, Janmejay Singh and Shiv Narayan, along with PTO Aarif Khan were suspended on Tuesday, Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Amritlal said.

Police has also registered an FIR against over 50 people for inciting violence in Naubatpur area in the aftermath of the truck driver's death.

Truck driver Ashwami Kumar Gupta was beaten to death, allegedly, by transport department employees after he failed to pay Rs 5,000 as bribe during a vehicle checking drive in Alinagar area in Chandauli district on Monday.

Agitated over the incident, locals blocked the National Highway 2 and resorted to violence.
