75 pc voter turnout in polls

Thirty two visually challenged people exercised their franchise in Bahrampur assembly constituency.

An estimated 78 per cent of the 82.27 lakh voters exercised their franchise in the second and final phase of Assam assembly election on Monday.

The overall percentage of polling, including the first phase on April 3, was 75.16 per cent, state chief electoral officer JP Prakash told reporters in Guwahati on Tuesday.

Mankachar constituency in lower Assam recorded the highest -- 87 per cent of polling while the lowest turnout of 70 per cent was at Patacharkuchi on Monday.

He also said that 32 visually challenged people exercised their franchise in Bahrampur assembly constituency, where the Election Commission for the first time had introduced the Braille signage facility.

Repolling would be held in 15 booths spread over 8 constituencies on Wednesday, EC office sources said.
