82-year-old faces rape charge
An 82-year-old resident of the posh Belvedere Park condominium in Gurgaon’s DLF City has been accused of “raping” his domestic help, police said.
“The accused hasn’t been arrested yet but his passport has been seized,” Assistant Commissioner of Police (DLF City) Sumit Kuhar said.
The family of the accused has termed the allegation baseless.
“The girl couldn’t settle down and was looking for ways to leave,” said a relative of the accused, who claimed the girl was about 18-19 years old.
According to the FIR (first information report) filed two days after the incident — on the evening of May 27 — the accused gagged and dragged the girl to his room, dumped her on the bed and sexually assaulted her.
The delay in filing the case could have led to the medical test of the victim not confirming rape, police said. The vaginal swabs of the victims have been sent to a forensic lab in Karnal. A medical test of the elderly man revealed he is “sexually able”, police said.
Counsellors from an NGO are currently talking to the victim to help establish the facts, police said. “We will take action after we get a report from the counsellors. We have filed the FIR under section 376 (rape) of IPC,” Kuhar said.
The girl had joined the family on May 15 and belongs to a West Bengal village.
